The Benefits of Scanning
1 It takes away the guess work! Constantly wondering is she or isn't she?
2 You can feed your bitch accordingly, making sure she is have tailored nutrition for her condition.
3Her whelping room/area can be prepared and your bitch introduced into it in plenty of time to help reduce stress.
4It maybe possible to detect the number of foetuses present, which is invaluable if you have a waiting list of prospective owners (However this can never be guaranteed**). The best time to determine puppies present is at the 30-33 day stage.
5Gives you piece of mind knowing that the puppies are well and growing normally.
6 So you can be sure she's not having a phantom pregnancy.
7 If your bitch was to reabsorb a whole litter, due to herpes, a bacterial infection, trauma or lack of progesterone to maintain a pregnancy, you would never have known she was pregnant in the first place without a scan to confirm it. You are then in a position to treat your bitch accordingly if you decide to put her into whelp again.
Ultrasound Scanning is completely safe and none invasive. Your bitch is scanned in the whilst she is in the standing position, there is no need for them to lie down. We use a Hospital grade water based ultrasound gel for our scanning. We never clip the hair on dogs unless they are particularly heavy coated. We would always ask your permission first.
Please make sure your bitch is 28 days post last mating.
